Sufjan Stevens Releases New Album and Shares Heartfelt Tribute
The most recent Sufjan Stevens album, "Javelin," has been dubbed a theme record about heartbreak and breakups. When Stevens dedicated a track to his late friend and partner Evan Richardson, who unfortunately went away in April, the subject became even more emotional on Friday morning.
With a candid photo of Richardson's contagious laughter, Stevens said, "This album has been a source of light in my life, dedicated to my dear collaborator and best friend, Evan Richardson." He was a treasure of the highest order, brimming with life, love, humour, curiosity, integrity, and happiness. He was that exceptional, uncommon, and lovely soul that you only come across once in a lifetime. He was priceless and unreplaceable.
Stevens has largely kept his personal life quiet for the majority of his remarkable career and has refrained from discussing the specifics of his personal life. "I know relationships can be challenging at times, but those you love deserve your hard work and care, and those who are incredibly rare and beautiful, hold them close, empower them, savour them, cherish them, especially when they are few and far between," he went on to say.
Stevens previously revealed his struggle with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune condition that targets a portion of the peripheral nerve system, and provided an explanation for his absence from the "Javelin" promotional tour. In a lengthy post on Tumblr, his preferred social media site, Stevens said that although he was hospitalized to regain control over his body, he was "intensely" involved in a "rigorous" physical therapy outside the promotional cycle.
In a subsequent Tumblr post on October 5th, Stevens stated that he will be leaving the hospital and going home to continue his job in therapy and assist other patients. "I appreciate you reading my hospital blog. And I appreciate all of your prayers and well wishes. Make a world peace prayer. Good luck. Be careful. Be authentic.
